Himantura uarnak (Forksal)
Common names: Stingray, Honeycomb Stingray
Local name: Stingray
Honeycomb stingrays are known for the distinct spots splattered across its back. It is also easily recognised by its tail which is white and bears 30 or more blackish-blue bands. This species of stingray is widely distributed from Australia, to China and all over the tropical Indian Ocean.
In Singapore, we love our stingrays grilled with spicy hot and fragrant sambal! However, a healthier cooking method will be steaming which produces a soft and tender stingray dish.
